7 day shooting challenge!!!

How to improve your shot FAST!!!

7 day shooting challenge

“If you want to get better at shooting, you need to shoot more”

This challenge is designed to help you improve your shooting ability.

I want to make this challenge simple to follow, challenging to master, free to be creative and a tool to get the job done.

You get the opportunity to be super creative with what you want to do and when you want to practice shooting.

You dont need alot of space, in fact about 3-5 yards will work.

Here is a framework to start you off. If you don't know what something is, or need a little assistance, contact me and I will be happy to assist.

How many shots a day?

If you want to grow in a particular skill, you should probably do it over and over again until you feel more comfortable with it, so here is a breakdown of shots per day over the next 7 days. You want to track your progress, so you can see how much you've grown!

Reps/Goals

  • 500 shots in 7 days = 71-72 shots a day

  • 700 shots in 7 days = 100 shots a day

  • 900 shots in 7 days = 128-129 shots a day

  • 1000 shots in 7 days = 142 shots a day

Different things to add to your shooting

  • Form shooting

    • This is the first thing you want to do if you are practicing a new shot or shot you are not so good at.

    • This can be stationary. Start slow, and practice good form before you start dodging and moving.

    • I like to practice something called “empty reps”. This is where you work on the footwork, hip rotation, pull, snap and so, without the ball. TAKE IT SLOW and master the motion.

    • Then, add the ball when you have it down.

    • If you are proficient at shooting, you probably don't need to spend too much time with Form Shooting

  • Out of a dodge

    • Now it's time to get moving. Try whatever shot you are working on right out of your first dodge, or make it more rigorous by adding in multiple dodges and counters.

    • Add in a dummy defender to make it more game like.

    • If you need ideas on dodging, check out this video I made with 3 of some of my favorite moves.

  • Off a catch

    • Use a rebounder, wall or someone to pass the ball to you so you can practice different finishes like quick sticks, shooting on the run and more.

    • If you don't have anyone to pass to you, or a wall, or a rebounder, you can substitute them by passing to yourself.

  • On a post-up

    • What is a “post-up”? This might be a little less movement against resistance. You can practice this with no defenders, or you can find an object or person to post up against.

Types of shots

  • Overhand

  • 3/4

  • Side Arm

  • Low to High

  • BTB (Behind the Back)

  • Around the World

  • Shovel

  • One handed

  • Twister

  • Twizzler

  • Nose breaker

Day breakdown

Here is a framework to use when starting the challenge. You can create your own schedule, but use this as a guide.

  • The amount of reps you get up is dependent upon your larger goals.

  • You might want to spend more time on something if you are not proficient.

  • But also be mindful that you can burn yourself out if you only focus on one aspect of shooting, so mux it up.

Day 1

  • Form shooting

  • Out of a dodge

Day 2

  • Form shooting

  • Off a catch

  • On a post-up

Day 3

  • Form shooting

  • Out of a dodge

  • Off a catch

Day 4

  • Off a catch

  • On a post-up

Day 5

  • Out of a dodge

  • Off a catch

Day 6

  • Form shooting

  • Out of a dodge

  • Off a catch

Day 7

  • Off a catch

  • On a post-up

Recommended Equipment

  • A goal, target or object to shoot at

    • One of my favorite portable goals are a Bownet 6x6 goal

    • You can also use a fence or wall, and use tape to make a 6x6 goal

  • A rebounder or wall to pass off

  • Balls

  • Cones

  • Dodging octagons/ Trapezoids
